The one with a character select

Basketball Legends 2020 puts a proper roster in front of the match. Before you play you pick a character for each side, and every character carries three visible attributes — Fast Break, Mega Dunk and Defence — so the pick is a real decision rather than a skin.

The mode selector above the roster offers one-on-one and two-on-two. Two-on-two is where this version separates itself from Basketball Stars, which has no team mode at all.

Choosing a character

• Fast Break decides how quickly you cross the court and how often you get an uncontested look. It is the most generally useful of the three.
• Mega Dunk is the finisher. High-dunk characters convert inside but do nothing for you from range.
• Defence is the pick that beats good opponents. Against the AI it is the least valuable of the three; against a person it is the most.
• Mismatched picks make for better games — a fast, weak-defence character against a slow, strong one is far more interesting than two of the same.

Playing 2v2

The AI teammate positions itself sensibly and will finish an open look, so the winning habit is to draw the defender and pass rather than force the shot.

On defence, cover the player with the ball and let your teammate take the other. Both of you chasing the same man is how easy baskets happen.
