The same duel on a pitch

Football Legends takes the two-players-on-one-keyboard idea from the basketball games and puts it on a football pitch: one player each, one goal each, and a ball that both of you are constantly mistiming. Same studio, same engine, same two-key control scheme, and the game prints its prompts as you play.

It is faster than the basketball games because there is no shot meter to respect. You strike the ball and find out.

Where goals come from

• Volleys off a bouncing ball beat ground shots — the keeper reacts to a rolling ball far better than a dropping one.
• Attack while the opponent is committed to a jump. Both characters are slow to land, and that window is where most goals happen.
• Do not chase the ball into your own half. Standing between the ball and your goal wins more possessions than tackling does.

Playing it as a two-player game

Matches are short and the scorelines are silly, which is the point. The skill ceiling is lower than the basketball games' but the barrier to a competitive first match is much lower too.

If you want a longer session, the tournament modes in Soccer Masters and Soccer Legends run the same engine with a bracket around it.
