A 3D shooting simulator, not an arcade duel

Basketball Real drops the two-player cartoon format entirely. You stand on a rendered court behind the ball, there is a Training mode, a score counter and a limited number of attempts — four at a time — and no opponent at all.

It is the closest thing here to a shooting drill, and the physics are correspondingly less forgiving than the arcade games.

Shooting in three dimensions

• Depth is the hard part. In a side-on game you only judge arc; here you judge arc and distance at the same time.
• Take the same shot repeatedly from the same spot before moving. Consistency is the only way to calibrate.
• Use the backboard. In a 3D game a banked shot is far more forgiving of a small depth error than a direct one.

Why it is worth ten minutes

Because it isolates the one skill that all the arcade games abstract away behind a meter. If you can read distance here, the shot meter in Basketball Stars stops feeling random.
