Bouncy Basketball strips the sport down to almost nothing: two floppy figures, one hoop each, and a control scheme simple enough to explain in a sentence. Your player bounces continuously and you decide when to jump. Everything else — where the ball goes, whether you catch it, whether you land on your opponent — is physics.

It should not work as a competitive game and it completely does, because the randomness is symmetric. Both players are equally at the mercy of the ragdoll.

How to actually score

• Jump early rather than late. The ball leaves your hands on the way up, so waiting until you are level with the hoop means shooting past it.
• Position under the ball before it lands rather than chasing it. A bounce is predictable; a scramble is not.
• Use your own body as a screen. Standing between the opponent and the ball is worth more than trying to take it off them.

Playing it with someone else

This is the game to reach for when the other person has never played anything. There is one thing to learn, both players are bad at it for the first two minutes, and the scoreline is close regardless of skill.
